I Have Found Me a Home

345 Lakeview Avenue
Tonka Bay, MN

Someone pinch me to make sure this is real!  Yes, you are looking at our recent anniversary present to each other. Can someone tell me what the traditional gift for the 12th anniversary is?  I'm sure we've got it covered.

As we have been boating on Lake Minnetonka, we've casually looked at houses for sale, mostly dreaming of the possibility of living on the lake.  Well, about a month ago we were anchored in Gideon's Bay and we saw a gorgeous cottage house for sale. The type of home I've always dreamed of having.  Cedar shake siding with white trim & white shutters.  Very cute. When we got home that evening I went to a realtor's website & typed in the address to find out how much it was going for.  Well...needless to say, it was WAY out of our price range.  But we did find that the homes on this point faced south & had hard sandy beaches. Plus, the area is easily within driving distance to the practice & Tonka Bay is a cute little lake town, too. So, we were curious  & started looking at possible sites with tear down capabilities.   We found a 1/2 acre with a cottage (not cute & ideal!) that was built in 1918.  For being nearly 100 years old, the place was not in horrible shape, but definitely not liveable for more than a weekend at a time.  So we thought, "Great, let's tear it down & start over."  The problem was that it was part of an estate & the family thought they were sitting on the Crown Jewel and it was out of our price range. Just a little bit, so it we were tring to finagle a way to manage it.  Well...just to make sure this property was worth it, we thought we'd take a look at a house for sale down the street.  345 Lakeview.  Well...the realtor's pictures did not do this home justice.  I had looked at the pictures on the web & immediately ruled it out because the lot looked irregular & very small.  Long story short...this home is move in ready, 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, and a great kitchen AND it was within our price range.  So we offered 10% less than the list price & we ended up getting it 5% less than list price!  YEAH!  It's a great buyer's market is all I have to say.  Long-term we will be living there, but in the short-term, we're going to keep both homes & wait until the market turns around for sellers.  This has all happened so fast & we need time to digest our options.  Will we rebuild or remodel?  The layout is pretty weird, so we'll have to do something.  But for the time being, there's a great dock to park the boat & a great shore for swimming.  That's all that matters right now & everything else will fall into place.  There's plenty of room for visitors...so come on over!
